It’s not often that you hear people advocating for “throwing the baby out with the bath water.” We generally try to save what’s good even when it’s accompanied with so much bad. However, I’m willing to make an exception when it comes to removing U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions from his position. While there are many good reasons for keeping Sessions as head of the Department of Justice, he may not be the man we need for a time such as this. I supported Sessions when he recused himself from involvement with the Russian investigation. Due to being part of the Trump campaign team during the election, he was placed in a potential conflict of interest situation. President Trump became aware during the confirmation process that Sessions would recuse himself if that was the advice given to Sessions by legal counsel. The DOJ legal counsel later advised Sessions to recuse himself and true to his word, that’s what he did, much to the chagrin of many Americans who don’t understand the ethical requirements an attorney faces.
